@morganth @signalstation I kind of want to start playing again but my social list is so clogged with people that have left the game that it's almost impossible to actually play
@signalstation @morganth I kind of want to create a new account with @DialMforMara but I'm having trouble persuading her that it can be light-hearted and fun given how the fanbase tends to embrace the darker aspects (myself included)
on my first playthrough my character was a bisexual hedonist who decided to embrace all the pleasure life had to offer after being exiled to Fallen London

I wouldn't characterize it as dark-dark. My wife has been enjoying life as a detective/monster-hunter in-game, avoiding tasks that call for, say, murdering folks or otherwise being a total villain and she's doing fine.
@signalstation @morganth @DialMforMara it's actually not too much of a Time think because it has a pretty strict limit on how many actions you can take
@signalstation @morganth @DialMforMara plus it's reading base and you read like a speed demon so I expect you to burn through how much you're allowed to do in the game real fast
@Canageek @signalstation @morganth I mean, I'm playing Pocket Dungeon now, and it has text prompts with relatively inconsequential choices (the worst it can do is end the current run), so I guess that's practice?
@signalstation @morganth @DialMforMara pretty much the worst that can happen without your consent is if you take too many wounds at once you get sent to the tomb colonies until you found a way to heal, and if you incur too much Scandal you can get exiled for a while.
@DialMforMara @morganth @signalstation plus they very deliberately designed the game so that no choice is unrecoverable from you may make choices which cause damage to you but it's impossible to die and a run or suffer truly lasting harm
@Canageek @signalstation @DialMforMara Yes, short of trying to figure out a particular name, I'm not aware of anything you can do that would cause permanent harm to your character. You can close off certain storylines, but that's about it.
(I'm considering creating a second character just to go after that name...I have too much invested in morganth to do it with them.)

@morganth @signalstation @DialMforMara if it helps you can think of yourself as a character in The Three Musketeers story. you are going to get into sword fights and do stupid things and probably even get hurt but you always know that in the next chapter you'll be swinging on chandeliers and seducing young novelist again.

@morganth @signalstation @DialMforMara so as you can tell I've been out of the loop for 7 years or so, when I played it was still called Echo bizarre though everyone refer to it as Fallen London. but basically you need trustworthy people to help you with your social actions and that's the limit on interaction.
@morganth @signalstation @DialMforMara you can if your Scandal gets high you can very slowly reduce it by going to church or you can do social actions with another player where they take a little bit of your Scandal to reduce yours more and then you do the same for them and eventually both of your scandals go down to zero.
@morganth @signalstation @DialMforMara but you need someone you can trust because they also have the option of betraying you boosting your Scandal heavily and exchange for almost eliminating theirs
