am i wrong in feeling that tooting on a mastodon instance is so much more personal as opposed to that global public birdsite timeline blackhole where nobody would respond to anything i wrote? i have a feeling i could toot much more personal things, about things i feel vulnerable about, especially if i restrict the post to followers, and virtual acquaintances would respond with thoughtful responses... or is opening up on a social network a bad idea in general?

I think a lot of folks are building smaller communities on their local instances where they feel safe sharing personal stuff.
