when someone is "playing the devil's advocate" shouldn't they provide some kind of proof that the devil is okay being represented by them?

and even if they are, as their attorney, shouldn't they know better than to make egregious statements on their client's behalf??

So I'm pretty sure Satan's used to that bullshit by now and has a special little place in hell for them

@meena yeah, comes from Advocatus Diaboli (latin for Devil's Advocate), they were a canon lawyer that had the job of uncovering any character flaws or misrepresentation of evidence favouring the canonisation of a candidate

They served as the party advocating against making someone a saint, and were up against the Advocatus Dei (God's Advocate) who were arguing that someone should be made a saint
