@djsundog even worse is that the local diner has, for years, not just downmixed their music to mono, so it's basically a coin flip as to whether you get vocals or just backing instruments.
@mallaidh old records during the initial stereo panning phase are nearly unlistenable with how far paned they are.
@mallaidh like, I have a rip of an old Deltones album and it's legit drums in the left. Guitar in the even farther left, vocals ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT
@LANthus oh yeah, it's just such and such mics on one track and the other mics on the other track. most all the beatles stereo releases are like that, which makes mono not that bad of an idea
drums might've just been carrying over to both mics, like when the loud instruments had to be way back when recordings were still a single-mic affair.
