anyway due to technical difficulties after a few days of using linux i'm switching back to windows (though i'm actually upgrading to 10 this time)
linux is unusably bad software and never ever ever ever believe anyone who tells you it's good
@bea @gcupc there are *things* I like about linux. I like being able to customize my desktop environment (however, when I tried to do that, it broke my computer and I had to stop trying to do that). I like package managers (however, I don't like having to go through a billion hoops to install something not available on the package manager). I like having a nice, usable command line! but so much software is broken on it, so much isn't available on it, and most of the stuff that *is* available on it is only available in a form vastly inferior to versions on other OSes.
@lycaon that's why I use fish instead of bash! it's one of the best command lines I've ever used and I wish it was more common
@lizardsquid installed fish regretted it.
honestly given the rest of what is listed, doubt that fixes the overall issue :p
@LottieVixen oh? why's that?
@lizardsquid did you see the rest of the list toots? fish wouldn't fix it :p
@LottieVixen oh yeah, I just meant "why did you regret fish?"
@lizardsquid oh eugh it was quite a curve from bash, porting my settings over as well as theming was a pain iirc
@LottieVixen oh yeah, I had to consciously ignore my bash settings and just build off the defaults of fish
@bea @lycaon Thirded, the times I ran it I kinda wish I didn't. All the headaches. it's not usuable for a desktop unless you do very basic tasks and never deviate, apart from some specialist tasks (android/java dev), which are annoying but setup once but then done on windows.
and I lost my train of thought darn it...but yeah a VM will do for most *nix tasks, modeling production, playing with lil things, etc.
@lycaon WORD
10 has linux in it anyway so ... i'm probably never gonna run linux on real hardware again unless something DRASTICALLY changes
and my first experiences with linux were as a sysadmin FIFTEEN YEARS AGO !!!
