I have been pondering the possibility of a deliberately-ephemeral instance where all posts are deleted after a certain amount of time. Mastodon-meets-snapchat.
@lambdagrrl I think this is super interesting, but wonder how you would keep it from becoming a hellscape like much of the *chans.
@cooler_ranch I don't think the toxicity of the *chans is a result of ephemerality. And you could moderate the heck out of it.
@cooler_ranch in the case of *chans I think it's not so much "careless moderation" as "deliberate neglect"

I think it's that blend between anonymity, ephemerality, and careless moderation that makes it easy to be toxic. I agree that heavy moderation would go a long way and you could preserve other qualities if desired.
