@alyx this kinda reminds of a crazy idea I had that would actually get me interested in professional, state-sponsored sports: if, every year, new teams were constituted by canvassing amateur leagues, schools, &c., giving a fresh batch of newbs every year a crack at big-name recognition. that'd be a lot more interesting to watch than a bunch of pros who play for years and jump around from team to team anyway
