I've sometimes wondered why seems to have so much smaller a fanbase in the U.S. than anime. It's a bit harder to get hold of, but that sort of thing doesn't stop anime fans. is it because everyone thinks it's all like Power Rangers, which isn't even proper toku?

@kara_dreamer Maybe we're so very used to live action having elaborate effects, that tokusatsu is this weird niche which can't parse the same way as animation, but doesn't hit what Americans think of as live action shows?

@Leucrotta that's a possibility. even the newest toku shows have fairly rough-looking special effects compared to what Americans are used to...maybe comparable to a cheapish Siffy TV show

The closest thing to toku in that aspect in the west would be Classic Doctor Who.
