@codl Speaking as a DBA: you can never have too many backups. Use several different methods if you can, and keep them in as many different locations as you can manage.

I have a ton of saved emoticons from back when MSN Messenger was a thing, that are only around due to blind luck and are definitely not backed up. But all of my photos of family are stored in several places, for example. If you consider it already lost, that puts you in the mindset to evaluate if you really care enough to keep it around.
