This is EXACTLY how I felt about my UK citizenship ceremony.
I didn't even want Andrew at the ceremony (but, hilariously, needed him to help me find the building. He dropped me off, said "bye!" and ran off to a McDonald's breakfast. The guy at the door is like "...you can stay!" but he had his instructions not to. :) I just hated the whole thing and didn't want it witnessed by anybody I knew.
Then they took pictures of all of us shaking the old white dude's hand as he handed us our certificates and tried to charge us like £9 for the photo!
I don't even know if that would've gone to
A) the council I'd paid £80 to sit in a room with two dozen others also paying for the privilege of a civil servant's time (it took about half an hour so we were paying for a little more than a minute each)
or
B) the national government I'd already paid more than £2000 to as an immigrant so far.
