@RobStorm from what i've seen so far people have tended to join in waves. i suppose if mastodon ever gets to a point where numbers are consistently increasing at this level every day that's a possibility, but i also think part of the reason how-to's are dominating the timelines right now is because mastodon isn't that well known. i would think if it gets popular enough that this many people are joining every day there wouldn't be as much of a need for these explanations

but so far at least days like this are unusual

@ebeth yeah scalability in communities is a tough issue. Things get crazy when everybody is talking at once.

@yourboyfancy there are definitely a lot of amazingly creative people on here! #creativetoots is a good tag to search if you want to see those kinds of toots all the time

@sivy i don't know of any instances that do this (but that doesn't mean they don't exist, there are a lot of things i don't know). it's a neat concept though. places with limited registration windows often sort of unofficially function that way, like i started on mastodon.social before joining witches.town and i think that's fairly common for users here
