this article explains what I've noticed: that Open Street Map 's map is crap, while third party services, that use the OSM database (maps.me, for example) are so much better.

distelfliege @distelfliege

also the paragraphs about geocoding say what I've experienced with OSM. when I was in Brandenburg, germany and looked for nearby campsites, it gave me results in the Netherlands.

" As an example, if I typed an address into Nominatim near my location in New York City, it might come up with a result in Iowa, which for whatever reason, it's more inclined to offer me."

these two things drove me away from in one afternoon basically.
but I continue to use maps.me which is also OSM 🙄

@distelfliege amusingly, I have the opposite problem with Google Maps trying to search for stuff while in Iowa ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

(Not disagreeing with Nominatim being cantankerous, just agreeing that This Is Hard)

@rey oh wow... I have had more luck with google maps so far.

@distelfliege nods, same here... I think it's likely because my location history has more NYC than DSM, and both have grid-based street systems?

Only one has the best State Fair in the land tho
