current thoughts on mechanics of posting sensitive content here; anything wrong?
toot unlisted: visible if rando views yr timeline; goes to all followers; seems? to be excluded from tag search, even if you tag it (though why would you)
toot private: only visible to followers ON YOUR INSTANCE; those off-instance cannot see, i'm told
toot direct: must list all recipients, so only feasible if you're only including a few people
general privacy: once a toot is federated it is on the remote instances forever; you lack ability to delete everywhere but yr local instance. therefore use an external hosting site for sensitive images so you can delete them at will.
@alyx you can delete everywhere but it's sort of a "honor pact" thing, instances *should delete it* but and there's no known instances that *don't* but they could fail to delete it because of a bug.
@boots is that right?
fwiw, like twice i direct-tooted to my mastodon social account, deleted it, and a few days later it is still showing over there
@boots just confirmed it does work for public posts to my mastodon.social, thank you
@alyx actually hold on i can test myself
@alyx woah, yeah, directing a dm @ mastodon.social and deleting it doesnt delete it that's weird
@alyx actually i think this happens for other instances soooo time for me to slide on over to the github
@alyx https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/issues/2031 here''s the issue i made if you want to watch the progress of it!!
@alyx hmmm, it not working for other privacies seems weird, might be a bug
there's been a lot of updates, maybe try again?
