@alyx I think MD uses a much higher mixing rate, like 51khz or something equally unconventional. Most real hardware does apply some amount of low pass filtering. Certain Model 1/Model 2 motherboard revisions are notorious for this.

The SPC isn't *exactly* memory-starved. There is enough RAM for 3.5 seconds of samples at 32khz. What it does lack is DMA access to audio RAM.

@alyx To be fair, audio RAM is also shared with the driver code, instrument definitions, song data, and the echo buffer.

The SNESGSS homebrew driver is about 1kB I think. Instrument definitions take basically no space. Songs might be a couple to several kB. The echo buffer, if used, eats a lot of RAM. I think it stores the full uncompressed stereo audio so yeah.
