just dug out these nerd-ass amber shades i bought two years ago and promptly forgot

i think reducing exposure to blue light can be a very helpful component of a reasonable bedtime initiative

i used f.lux for a long time but stopped at some point; it helped for sure

it's nice that many phones now have blue-blocking options

TVs and other screens like e-readers are problems.

i considered buying (strangely expensive) amber plastic to cut and place onto my kindle but never got past researching it

having it on a TV all the time could be a tough sell both for others and my own viewing preferences. maybe if it was easily removeable...

@alyx I work nights so I'm always trying to find tricks like this to keep my brain from being totally messed up; I just wish they didn't look like that lol. I WON'T be seen driving home from work wearing those things

@noxy amazon has quite a few options that look like typical stylish glasses now

when those gunnar optiks "gaming glasses" came out some years back i scoffed at the notion, but it seems like there's quite a little industry for "computer glasses" now

@alyx that first pair are actually cute, I'm genuinely surprised!! they would be perfect for once I'm already home and don't need to avoid the sun, but am still staring at screens.

on the drive home, nothing but big black sunglasses will do

oh, and we can't forget the artificial illumination / light bulb issue.

(i expect more people slept earlier and better in the 1700s because fire/candlelight was the only common source of post-sunset illumination)

i guess in the end wearing tinted glasses is a one-step solution that definitely beats spot solutions in simplicity and price

@Kizi forget. hmm...

ah, i think it annoyingly kept fighting with another app i run to keep my two monitors' color profiles applied during the day -- flicking between color profile and f.lux (which during the day = no color profile) every two seconds, so i stopped running f.lux and never started again

i guess i could make an autohotkey that runs f.lux only after sunset and closes it in morning
