Every fantasy book ever: "The next town is only ten miles away."
Me: "Is that… A lot?"
@zyabin101 Yes, but fantasy worlds are not medieval. They just *look* medieval to us.
And miles were not the measurement unit everywhere I think.
@Sylvhem ~1,6.10^4 m
@luluberlu 10^3 non ?
Merci beaucoup :).
@Sylvhem It'd take you a good few hours on foot at least.
Src: I walked about 14 miles once in a single night. Long story. It fucking hurt. >.>
@TrollDecker I really want to hear this story now ^^.
@Sylvhem Nothing special, really. I just got pissed off with my family again and stormed off.
@TrollDecker Oh :(. That doesn't sound like a funny story, I'm sorry to have asked.
@Sylvhem ~16km, donc entre 3 et 4 heures de marche à pied.
@Sylvhem and I was worried not to make my fictional continents too wide
@AliceinCrystalTokyo I'm more worried about the opposite. I often found that countries and continents are awfully short in some fantasy settings.
@Sylvhem yeah, I had that problem as well but about another thing, which spawns from the first problem actually. I ended up with a way too small planet, like, barely bigger than fuckin Europe
@AliceinCrystalTokyo XD That's kind of things happen all the time in my roleplaying games group.
@Sylvhem A marathon is 26.2 miles.
@Sylvhem I think the furthest I've ever walked in one trip was a bit more than five miles and that exhausted me, but I was trying to keep up the fastest pace I could.
@kara_dreamer Five miles don't sound a lot though 🤔.
@Sylvhem not to someone who's used to it!
@kara_dreamer Yeah, you're probably right about that ^^. I used to walk a lot, so it probably don't sound like a long distance for me :O.
@Sylvhem In medieval, people used miles for measurement.
