I love Tabletop Simulator's DLC model. The base game allows full customization and includes everything you need to recreate the DLC content yourself if you wanted to -- nothing is locked behind a pay gate but the content itself.
I just wish it didn't, you know, force download every single DLC package that you don't even own and have no intention of using, as part of the "required updates" pushed through Steam. At this point I could save over 13 GB just off of tabletop games I don't want.
@catgirl I love my own DLC model: base game is a terminal UI. you can get graphics for $cost_of_hiring_someone_to_do_graphics.
We should really be paying artists better...
