But my interest stems from my work on Mailpile - Mailpile, like Mastodon is meant to be used by non-technical people. So someday I hope to have angry entitled users too, and hopefully I'll be able to deal with them gracefully or at least not let them get me down too much.

I'm sorry that you've run into enough jerks for them to color your MastoExperience. That's a very different experience than the one I have had and it seems like it might be worth it to explore different local instances for a sense of community while this weird magical accident is still happening. (It really is!)

I actually don't think they're jerks. They're just... passionate. And maybe not very good at empathising with the "others." And a bit quick to judge.
And maybe also jerks a little bit some of the time.
