Im so not happy with the state of messaging apps. Wire, Discord, IRC, Slack, Skype, Telegram, Signal, Riot/Matrix. Like. Fuck all that noise.
Especially the proprietary ones that will never consider federating or bridging, or access to an API so people can make multi protocol messengers.
Also im upset that multi protocol messengers are kind of dead. I miss Miranda IM.
On this note, I use Wire predominately. Crossing my fingers that they may one day federate with Riot/Matrix and Signal
@Mirzaba I'm still on XMPP but the design of the protocol isn't the best. Still I feel like it's the most common thing that's not proprietary for IM. Riot/Matrix might replace it but idk yet.
@Mirzaba it's so difficult to like... pick one to use, especially if everyone you know is on different things. it would be so convenient if IM programs federated. especially from the perspective of picking one with features that are actually good, without having to bribe friends into joining it
(it was proprietary, but i still really miss MSN, who's nudge feature was maybe the most irritating thing. i loved it)
