Hey all, I need a name for my Low Fantasy GURPS ASCII Dungeon Crawler. Any suggestions? XD
@sydneyfalk Gritty and immersive? Kinda like fantasy XCom.
@sydneyfalk Hmm, that seems like a good tagline. Maybe <something>: Tales of Steel and Blood?
I like that as a tag, yeah! That'd play good, esp. with 'tales' in front there
is it A dungeon, or SEVERAL dungeons?
if it's A dungeon, maybe the name of the dungeon, then ": Tales of" after that
@sydneyfalk No, it's several dungeons. It is a region, though. On the other hand, I don't have a name for that either... XD
there you go -- region name, and you've got all the hallmarks that say "this is a fantasy game"
- unusual world
- reference to fighting with bladed weapons
- vaguely archaic word use
@sydneyfalk Mmm, yeah. Now I just need a region name. Carvendaugh? Eh. :/
Hm. HMMMMMM.
Do you have a language set up, or are you doing "it's in English but ARCHAIC English"?
@sydneyfalk I'm not actually sure what I'm gonna do for language. Probably english but funny sounding? Though not really archaic, I wanna do things differently than that. :/
You could even veer a little further, something like Vasshen, Vaschon, something that sounds like 'visceral' doesn't hurt.
Crovasshun? Crovanhus?
(but obv. I'm spitballing here ^_^ if it's helpful, good, but fantasy's not usually my thing anyway, so I might not be the right source for this ^_^ )
@sydneyfalk Hmm. I like Crovasshun. Maybe I'll just use that? At least for the moment. :P
Feel free! If it sticks, I'm glad I could help. And if it doesn't, I'm glad it helped until it was replaced by something better! ^_^
@sydneyfalk Indeed, thank you! I'll post some screen shots as soon as I have something pretty enough. XD
Plus, you want it to 'sound' brutal -- the 'Carv' is good, the 'daugh' sounds -- soft, maybe squishy.
Carven would work by itself better, maybe?
Croven? I feel like it's a less-is-more kinda thing, maybe. If it's meant to be a "wide and varied" kinda fantasy land. Some of them are One Land Of Many, like in Elder Scrolls, so the names are very different between 'lands' involved.
@sydneyfalk I was thinking "daugh" pronounced like "Auugh!", but yeah. :/
It's not a bad thought, but 'dough' is a more common word, so it kinda pulls the ugh sound into squishy-seeming, IMO.
('dargh' might work better? 'argh' is a sound of displeasure, and that'd definitely sound dungeon-crawly)
maybe For The Coin, although I don't think the sound of that's gonna play as well unless someone KNOWS it's 'low fantasy' to start with
oh! or maybe Blood For Coin?
feel like 'blood' should be prominent there, somehow O_o maybe that's me tho
@sydneyfalk No no, I like blood. it does seem approproate, as the game will likely involve lots of bleeding. :P
s'why I went for it, figured it might ;) fantasy in general often does
@Angle What about "Angle's Low Fantasy GURPS ASCII Dungeon Crawler", or "ALFGADC" ?
More seriously, is there an item you have to retrieve, or a boss you have to kill to complete the game ? You could name the game from them.
@Feufochmar I ultimately decided to name the game after the main region in which it takes place, plus a tagline. So: "Crovasshun: Tales of Blood and Steel" it is, at least until I find something I like better. XD
@Azath Eh, I wanna put a bit more effort into the thing than that. XD
@Angle I guess it might be cliche, but I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to follow in the old tradtion of Akallabeth, Angband, Moria, etc. and choose a Middle Earth place name.

@BadWrongFun Eh, I already have a setting in mind though, and it's definitely not middle earth. :/
@Angle I wasn't really saying you needed to. But without any real details, I wouldn't really think of anything else. Sorry....
@BadWrongFun Ah, no worries. I ended up with "Crovasshun: Tales of Blood and Steel" eventually, which should do for now at least. XD
@Angle I don't know but I want to play it
@Angle Low Fantasy GURPS ASCII Dungeon Crawler
@Angle or LFGURPSADC, if so you prefer.
@Angle
Hm.
what kind of vibe are you looking for?
