not sure if i should learn Django for python or Ruby on Rails, or something else aaa why is it so complcated.
I could also use pygame to make my game but idk if i can code with pygame, and idk how Unity or GameMaker works. Maybe Construct 2 ? idk
@zey Learn Python. It's basically everywhere, so no matter what you end up doing with code, you'll be able to use it.
That said, basically just learn something. Once you learn one language (not a GUI, but an actual language), it's just a matter of syntax when you decide to learn another. Honest!
@klaatu I've already learned python but idk if i'm really good with it or not, and there's a lot of libraries but i'm hesitating between PyGame or TKinter aaaa
@zey haha, oh ok. Tkinter and Pygame are really different animals. Learn..both? Look - I'm no help at all!!! :D
@klaatu You help me clarify my idea and that's pretty cool already ahah
i'll do an "alpha" with pygame, but i'm afraid of i will export it after. GameMaker or Construct 2 may be more easy to do a final thing
@zey Don't move from cross-platform to restricted! If anything, PyGame -> Unity or UnReal. That way you're not missing out on platform support.
@klaatu maybe unity
@zey GameMaker is easy to learn and to make quick game, unity is I think more interesting, and for an "only programming game", I would say python. (I did some search on ruby and it seems it's quite heavy, python is slightly better)
@Skinnery But idk how unity work at all :(
i may be able to do some things with GameMaker but i wonder if I be able to make something with python ahah, and how to export etc,,, maybe Gamemaker is the better solution
@zey If you want to create games, i would say that gamebreaker is the best. If you want to do some programming, go with python.
@Skinnery I like to code but, I don't know what I really want to do so I think I'll go for unity and look for some tutorials
@zey (after ... Do as you want, I'm just giving you small advice).
@Skinnery but your advice are so important to me!!
@zey I'm not a huge programmer or anything, I don't creat game, I just recommand you to never start JavaScript :P
And some friends around me are quite "nazis" with horrible language, so I'm a bit pushy :P
@Skinnery ok I'll never learn unity or game maker then
@zey
Have you seen Gamemaker 2? It looks pretty sweet; definitely an improvement over the first
@farsayl aaaaaa gamemaker 2 or unity? I can't decide ahah
@zey What kind of game are you making? Gamemaker is easier to get a handle on fast, but Unity I feel is more robust
@farsayl something in 2d, turn by turn it's a bit blur for the moment
@zey ooh def Gamemaker then! It's great for 2d turn-based games
@farsayl idk aaaa too many possibility
@zey what kind of game do you want to make?
@Rumpelcita it's a 2D choise-based game it's something a bit blur and particular ahah
@zey if you want to code, I think you're safe with renpy or phaser + ink if you want it to be playable in the browser. You could also try construct2 and import an inklewriter made json if you don't feel like coding and want to see all your story branches easily.
@Rumpelcita this is interesting too
@zey python fo' sho
@zey If you look at this from a job market perspective, Unity skills are in higher demand than pygame skills. Unity has a decent amount of tutorials to get started with, too: https://unity3d.com/learn/tutorials
I can't really comment on the Django vs Ruby on Rails. Sorry about that.
@turumore can I make a game for HTML5 with unity?
@turumore i'll look for it then !!
I feel like i could do things with Construct 2 but idk if the final result will be cool, i'll test some things tommorow
