I'm not arguing for custom emoji btw, I think this is a deeper issue for all emoji

to highlight how silly this is, quote from a news article:

He's only standing because parties are allowed more electoral financing depending on how many electorates they (pretend to) contest

our possible savior could be the Māori electorates, if Labour's plan to take them comes to fruition

not hopeful though

and then there's the mess of NZ First wanting to get rid of those

and and and, yeah it sucks that electorate votes are first past the post and not single transferable vote or some other system that doesn't lead to tactical voting but this wouldn't matter here

National voters would rank
1. United Future (the incumbent)
2. National

Angry Greens/Labour voters would rank
1. United Future
2. Labour

but if it was STV, Greens wouldn't have had to drop their candidate to avoid splitting the vote, so...

Labour could have stood a ham sandwich and Green supporters would have voted for it. Instead they stood... the former boss of the Police union, so a lot of Greens *and* Labour supporters will vote for the incumbent just to keep that sociopath out of parliament

and these two electorates only matter because the National party are basically abusing a loophole in how the system works to get two extra seats by encouraging their supporters to vote for two minor parties that ally with them

and and part of this is Labour's fault. Last election the combined Greens + Labour vote in Ōhāriu was more than for the incumbent, so this election Greens haven't stood a candidate there, so in theory their supporters there will vote for Labour and change the seat ...

it's increasingly looking like this election will turn on who wins two electorates; Epsom and Ōhāriu, ie. the first and third richest electorates in the country

so whether public assets keep being sold and whether social services keep being gutted for the entire country will depend on how ~80,000 very wealthy people vote
