Jackets and coats are the same thing
Des manteaux et des vestes sont des mêmes
fight me
@vi for me une veste is lighter than un manteau but I think it's only because that how my mom categorizes it so we picked it up (and maybe the length too)
I don't make a difference in english tho
@sempervirenx if I was going to admit there is a difference -- which I'm not! -- I'd say jackets are heavier than coats 🤔
@vi @sempervirenx jackets stop at the waist or hips, coats cover the booty.
@Murkrow @sempervirenx but then a girl with a short skirt and a long jacket would actually be wearing a coat
@vi @sempervirenx ...correct? I'm not seeing the problem here.
@vi @sempervirenx OHHHHH
@sempervirenx okay, apparently I'm the only person in the universe who thinks jackets are heavier than coats so 😅
@vi quick tip: to reply to a negative sentence or question in French, you can say "si" to mean you disagree, e.g.
"Les manteaux ne sont pas des vestes" (Coats are not jackets)
"Si" (Yes they are)
@luluberlu @vi btw, that's part of why Téléfrançais is weird for native speakers :
- Les ananas ne parlent pas, ce n'est pas possible
- Oui, c'est possible !
Should be "Si, c'est possible !"
@luluberlu could you reply to "si" with another "si"?
I want to say no, but I'm not sure. Do you have an example in mind ?
@Seipas @luluberlu just silly internet fights mainly 😋
"c'est un manteau !"
"si"
"si"
"si"
"si"
...
More like :
"c'est un manteau"
"non, c'est une veste"
"si c'est un manteau"
"non"
"si"
"non"
"si"
"si" replace "oui" when it is to answer a "non" by stating the contrary.
@vi nope, you'd reply with "non" if you didn't want to budge (or, you know, a complete sentence)
@luluberlu yikes, complete sentences 😰 two letters I can do
@vi *_*
Someone who understands me.
@vi Nope.
I agree with you.
ahaha, I mixed them up here too 😶
