im really bad at drawing things that aren't right in front of me and also drawing anything in any sort of stylized way i really need to fix that

The strangest part of this is that it creates two parallel literacies. One that is applicable to real world settings and problems
and
one that is applicable in the context of the institution whose goal it is to train those very same literacies
Johnny can't read, according to his grades. But he can read, according to the mod he spent all night writing instead of cramming for the test about the Odyssey
And he can read the positive comments he got on it, too
"Literacy levels are falling across the board. We need to do something!"
Jenny: *moderates a fanfic community and gives constructive criticism to fellow authors, as well as being a substantive part of discussions about the canonicity of books vs movies and other intertextual matters without obvious answers*
"We are at a loss as to what to do"
"We need to teach Johnny how to read"
Johnny: *peruses a wiki to find what modifications and alterations he needs to do in order to get a specific mod to work as intended, and consults external works as a result of this, learning many things in the process*
"No, not like that"
I am reminded of that time I wrote that thing about how modern day media consumption fosters all kinds of useful skills and literacies, and how these skillsets get absolutely zero recognition in educational settings
Kids can read, and they can actively look up information in appropriate resources to solve the problems they face. Only thing is, their problems are game-related and the resources are wikis
That literacy gets no love
