Today someone told me that a blog post that I wrote for fun sucks. When I told them that they were being hostile they blamed my inability to handle criticism.

I thought about it a little bit, googled a little bit, and I've come to the conclusion that

UNSOLICITED CRITICISM IS RUDE.

If you don't like something that someone made and you feel moved to tell them,

ASK FIRST IF THEY WOULD LIKE CRITIQUE.

If you don't know them, think twice.
If they didn't @ you when posting it, think at least 4 times.

And let's be real. None of the fanfare around Kaep has remotely addressed what he lost.

This mimics the behavior of most social movements that originate in Black spaces, but are picked up on by white people b/c they think it's 'cool'.

So I saw the GQ people of the year thing and I just kind of chuckled because they were putting all those other cats on the same level as Kaepernick.

Gal Gadot is a Zionist, KD joined a 73 win team to win a championship and Colbert is, well, a rich white dude.

None of them has had the same cultural impact as Kaep who actually lost something to stand up to fight injustice.

It reminded me why I generally avoid major media outlets. It's just about popularity.

I've said it before but it bears repeating: the use of ad-blockers generally DOESN'T reflect a desire to not see any ads at all. It reflects a desire to not see ABUSIVE ads.

Pop-up ads, ads that redirect our browser to other sites, ads that flash and dance and play audio and video, ads that cover the content: this is what we're trying to avoid.

You won't get us to turn off our blockers by complaining about revenue streams.

Promise us your ads are SAFE and we'll disable our blocker for you.

I know Twitter's a shithole but remember that it's not JUST the admins' fault.

Fleeing from the constant negativity, vicious flame-wars and harassment? Those things are just as likely to happen here, if we're not careful.

Mastodon is not popular yet, but it's growing. One day it will be. Security by obscurity is not security at all, as I'm sure you're aware.

We need to be on our best behaviour, promoting the values we want to see on our networks.
