Mastodon isn't immune to this, but as pointed out by @darius its economic model tends toward better outcomes. Virality and outrage are rewarded on Twitter/Facebook/etc because it keeps you hooked to the screen, which is what advertisers want.

Mastodon doesn't care how many hours you use it. It doesn't need an algorithmic timeline to try to keep you hooked. You can use Mastodon for 5 minutes per day and as long as it brings value to your life, that's great.

I'll share a little information about the earthquakes we had in Mexico this month.

The earthquakes have hit Oaxaca (itsmo region), Morelos, Chiapas, Puebla, Tlaxcala and Mexico city the worst.

The ppl have self-organized rescue and relief efforts, like we did in 1985,.

The gov. and army have been mor and obstacle than help, there are cases of aid being robbed and repression against rescue voluntaries.

Yesterday, Mexico City's police violently repressed a feminist aid brigade (Brigada Feminista) as they seized the aid (tools and food) that the feminist had.

Morelos and Chiapas gov.'s have stolen relief aid. In Morelos, the governor retains the aid until it has been re labeled with his and his wife's names.

Don't give aid to official channels (Mexico's gov, Red Cross...), look for NGO's or grassroots organizations.
