@candle Trying to be too Twitter, TBH. (Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy is M.S even still open for new registrations?)

@gargath @Are0h Also, the wait to actually go to court is very long in my jurisdictions. If you're on the hook for a misdemeanor, your actual sentence might be only a little bit longer than the time you spent in jail waiting for trial. Plea deals often include short sentences, so it's not impossible for many people charged with a misdemeanor to spend less time in prison if they plead guilty than the amount of time they spend in jail if they're found innocent by the court.

@gargath @Are0h I haven't seen the studies they're citing, but AFAIK there are a couple of things at work there.

Jails are in theory only occupied for a short term, so they don't have a lot of affordances that prisons do like visitation rights or prison commissaries, and usually everyone there pretty much shares one big cell. So there's a degree of physical coercion. Plea out and you can at least see your family and get a cell with only one other person.

This is a brilliant fucking idea. This is how tech needs to be used to actually help communities rather than being used to make the lives of the wealthy more convenient.

Support the fuck outta this.

I had a dream last night about a blue whale and a harbour seal who were best friends, and I think that means I need to write a children's book now??

@mtknn @amsomniac Yeah, true. It really seems like MS assumes you're either a power user yourself or you're getting everything pushed down to you via GPO. The experience for in-between users is not great.

@mtknn @amsomniac MS added some Powershell hooks for that stuff a while back, but you still need a separate package manager like chocolatey to actually use the hooks. Which kind of defeats the purpose IMO.

I mean, like, I'm pretty sure "love has no borders, nationalities, or genders" is all the conversational Japanese one could ever need.

Learning Japanese by just watching Wild Zero a bunch of times: great idea or greatest idea?

And at the end of the day, that is what is most disappointing about people.

Despite the innumerable advancements we have made by simply working together, we still believe that there is some mystic formula to solve the perpetual cycle of crisis we find ourselves in.

The tragedy isn't that we have problems. Problems and challenges are just a part of life. The tragedy is that we have the answer and we refuse to apply it for whatever reason.

@HTHR So I'd make a game where whatever input you give all your character does is make a jerk-off gesture on the screen?

roses are red
violets are blue
in surveillance capitalism
poem reads you

and shows you ads
for flower shops
and tracks your clicks
and never stops

it cares not about
if privacy's harmed
the money is green
when people are farmed

twitter is cyan
facebook is blue
your friends are the product
and so are you

@Xibanya Ugh. I've started using them as an alternative to Steam since the latter is so shitty for discoverability, so this is super disappointing.

I want a storefront with curation, but "we're not interested if we can't have your game on day one" is bad curation.

watch out gamedevs, gog wont want your game unless you launch with them first. (steam and itch have no such requirements!)
