@oceangrunge Everyone seems to hate the live games they're playing, so maybe playing only dead games is for the best.
@oceangrunge (Meanwhile LOTRO has had consistent landscape and story content updates every six months or so since 2010 despite the fact that people have been calling it a dead game or accusing it of being in maintenance mode since... I'm assuming since before beta when it was still called "Middle-Earth Online".)

I remember when Guild Wars 2 did the same thing after HoT. They had to cancel some other promised features just to get their *one* raid out the door. But at least that game doesn't charge a sub fee.

@oceangrunge I think it's telling that the justifications are the same, too. Like, why have MMOs hang around for two decades on the model of charging a box price for the base game, paid DLC, *and* a monthly subscription? Because games are expensive something something servers.

@caraellison I really think they missed an opportunity by not making a new War Story at least for the Russia expansion. Let you play as a member of the women's battalion during the Kerensky Offensive or something. They used the female Scout model to advertise the multiplayer pretty heavily, so why not give her a singleplayer story as well?
So many interesting things they could have done. But we'll probably need to wait for indie devs with a tiny fraction of the budget to even make the attempt. Alas.
