In the past few years I’ve been very open about my gender, telling everyone my pronouns and calling people out on their queerphobia or bullshit assumptions.
But in that, talking about race has sort of disappeared in the mix. I want to fix that.
In particular, I want to find a community of mixed people like myself, as well as start to understand the issues of colorism (I’m light skin-ish, so in winter and for a lot of my early childhood I was pale enough that I was...
maybe pol Afficher plus
...assumed white (I was very pale when I was younger, and my dad used to compare me to Audrey Hepburn, which I think is all I really have to say.)
I’m now at least vocal enough that people KNOW I’m not white, but I’m sure that I still receive some privilege that I’m less than aware of. It is my hope, along other things, to realize that privilege and do what I can to make it better
So if nothing else, I will spend this year amplifying the voices of my black peers. And you should too.
