Hiya. I've been assigned to do some secretary tasks for church and thought I could repurpose my decade-old XP laptop to take notes/email on. But it's awful slow. Should I switch over to a Linux? What's a nice one for newbs? Mint? Lubuntu? I once used PuppyLinux to get some files off a dying computer but I don't know how Linux is different than Windows. Thank you for help, Linux masters!

@AesAthena If you switch to something like Ubuntu, there will be a lot of everyday usability that will be similar. You should keep in mind that you can't run Microsoft Office programs and will have to use something like LibreOffice instead. They're mostly cross-compatible, but not always 100%.

Do you have a linux-savvy friend or two who would be able to help you if things broke?

@jakobpunkt I know Linux systems need Linux progs or version of progs (like OpenOffice, Firefox). But knowing what to download, how to extract files, step-by-step things has never been explained to me.
I have no Linux-savvy friends to my nkowledge, but this is the fastest-spreading/replied-to toot I've ever made! 8o!
