sonic 1 megamix is a weird game. it has sadistic level design elements but its not a kaizo game, they throw you a ton of lives and most of the stuff wont even kill you. they go out of their way to do new stuff with the sonic 1 engine, make you navigate spikes in new ways, put upsidedown powerups, lots more enemies. i like that it has its own design philosophy

@spinach v 3.0, downloaded it pretty recently. i like that they are doubling down on the slow and methodical stuff in misty maze zone too. more fun to me than sonic advance which i tried recently
@mahou 4.0b is also definitely worth a look – a whole lot got added to it before the project got canceled.
@spinach hmm odd they have a 5.0 beta which is available too but they dont even consider it an official version

@mahou someone not connected spread it around under their own name. everything in it that can be cleaned up is going into the next (and final) 4.0 release, whenever the one guy still working on it can get to it.
