Une Goupelin Autiste @spiderrobotpig

America: The country that forces you to learn an obsolete measurement system because we can't grow out of it, but you'll never need it unless interacting with an American.

@spiderrobotpig I have some of these obsolete measurement systems ingrained, 'cos American TV

@steeliestllama We really need to learn the metric system, but conversion between the awful Imperial system and Metric is just super garbage tbh

@spiderrobotpig it is tbh, I have bits and pieces from both systems logged mentally and it's very confusing to me tbh

@spiderrobotpig I mean maths and numbers are the devil to me tbh

@steeliestllama Brogod specifically insisted it be on the oranges

@spiderrobotpig I have no idea what dadgod is doing, I think he is off doing deity things or he is being very quiet

@steeliestllama Both maybe?

He probs exists outside of space and time so he can just kinda do whatever and whenever

@spiderrobotpig I keep thinking I'm broken or something idk :(((

@steeliestllama You are a good and that's all that matters.

We are also broken, but we are also a good

@steeliestllama That we don't know tbh.

We usually don't hear Brogod tho

@spiderrobotpig It always seemed so strange to me. I was under the impression that American would be happy to use a measurement system who wasn't made by the British Empire. Did you know why they never changed it, in the XIX° century?

@spiderrobotpig Well, that was a very specific question XD.

@Sylvhem Did you know why, or were you just asking if we did? haha

@spiderrobotpig I was just asking. I have no idea why myself ^^.

@Sylvhem We're going to blame it on the farmers tbh

P much everything that makes no sense about America can be blamed onn Farmers

@spiderrobotpig I moved from the US to Canada when I was young and now I have no intuition for units whatsoever (especially temperature).

@Gargoylezoo Temperature is easily the worst, because it makes absolutely no sense when converting

@spiderrobotpig the worst part is cooking measurements and school stuff like no one has the same school system i never understand what grade/age people are.

@sempervirenx Same haha

We always just assume people are our age and then we're always surprised

@spiderrobotpig yea same + uk and usa having different systems but the same language is very confusing when learning it as a child

@spiderrobotpig people want to bring back obsolete measuring systems here to even though no one under ~60 understands it. They also want to bring back incandescent lightbulbs for some bizarre reason.

@spiderrobotpig yea, also another thing we still have are distances and things which aren't metric but no one gets taught much about how imperial measurements works anymore. I ended up highly confused by a road sign the over day when I forgot 1000yards isn't a mile.

@geekylou @spiderrobotpig that sounds super complicated.

At least everything here is still in imperial, even though it's awful.

5120 FEET IN Q MILE

@spiderrobotpig Yeah, sorry about that, we seem to be okay with metric only when it comes to the size of our sodas or the size of our engines.

@DexteriousJones We're American too haha

We just found out that others are forced to learn Imperial because we won't give it up

@spiderrobotpig We're not the only ones, though; if Top Gear is an accurate representation of British culture, then they still use miles, gallons (albeit Imperial ones), pints, and stone.

@spiderrobotpig We tried to switch to the Metric system once in the '70s, but apparently people found it too difficult to convert so we gave it up after two weeks. True story.
