ils mangent des sandwichs is the hardest french so far

@candle des in general is hard when the thing doesn't explain why >.> haha

@spiderrobotpig @candle Sorry, but I'm curious. What do you find difficult with with "des" exactly?

@Sylvhem @candle Because in duolingo it seems random when "des" is used, because it doesn't explain it.

Once someone told us -why- you use it, it made a whole lot more sense haha

@candle @Sylvhem It's just a modifier for an indescriminate amount.

So like some.

If there's multiple things, but it isn't specified at all, then des is used

@spiderrobotpig @candle Yes that's it ! It's funny, because I had the reverse problem with "some" when I first started to learn English.

@Sylvhem @candle Yeah exactly haha

We don't use them in the same instances, tho arguably we could?

Like, "They eat some sandwiches" is still a valid construction in English

@spiderrobotpig @candle Really ⊙_☉ ? I always though that was forbidden!

@Sylvhem Nope haha

It's just specifying that /some/ not /all/ of the sandwhiches were eaten.

Or exactly like des in that an indescriminate amount was eaten.

It's more intentionally vague, but it is a valid construction
