In case anyone was wondering, for some reason, yes, Walgreens is a garbage company.

Anti-union propaganda -before- we were hired, and 3 years experience nets you 0 extra pay.

Neat.

Also, corporate does their best to have as few people on the clock as possible by "budgets" which forces all employees to do all of the work.

So that's neat.

Also we aren't even hired yet.

@spiderrobotpig Target is the same. We were explicitly told that if we so much as *said* the word "union", our employment would be terminated. Long-term employees were making minimum wage due to minimum wage increases going beyond what raises had been received.
This will not change so long as labor is in surplus.

@DexteriousJones Yeah, p much.

Corporations and capitalism are garbage tbh

@spiderrobotpig I don't think they're inherently garbage, but I do think that we've allowed them too much power via lobbying/legalized bribery. Capitalism has been a strong motivator for many technological advancements that we enjoy today; we've just been bad about our self-care and suckered into the false idea that people are poor because they're lazy/undeserving.

@DexteriousJones

We could see that, but also we feel like these things still likely would have happened with a socialistic system.

Capitalism actually looks to make the cheapest item and sell it for the most money.

In a socialistic system, money wouldn't matter, and so it still would have happened, but possibly even better, because shelter and healthcare and food and living would be no worry

@spiderrobotpig My preference is a blend of socialism and capitalism. You have enough socialism that people's basic needs are met, but you allow capitalism to satisfy desire for wealth/luxury. Labor is not required for survival, but wealth is available for those who are willing/able to contribute in meaningful ways.

@DexteriousJones Honestly, we think this would be a perfect system for us tbh.

As long as homesless and starving people didn't exist, we'd be happy

@spiderrobotpig And to be overt about it, I'm very content to pay taxes on my labor/investments to contribute to the general welfare. Paying taxes should be seen as a privilege, as payback to the society that allowed you to become what you are.

Une Goupelin Autiste @spiderrobotpig

@DexteriousJones *nodnod* exactly.

There shouldn't be anything bad about paying taxes. We barely pay taxes and we'd pay more if they went to things that didn't kill brown people, and helped out people
