Otherkin is out of or realm, but we were out walking our dog at about 2:30am a couple of nights ago and wondering why our wing feathers were both black and white.

We'd moved the horses into a paddock they hadn't been in for a while and started to clean out their water trough, the water was covered in feathers and had a layer of blue-green slime on the bottom. Pukekos.

As we bucketed out the water, millions, billions, trillions of newly hatched bloodworms floated up from the slime.

They die quickly in the sun so we were carefully throwing the buckets of water out wide in the paddock.

So now we just leave it be, a peculiar aspect of who we, the dark mixed in with the light, and let it out to play ocassionally, not until it's sated, but long enough to assuage its urges.

The feeling is more akin to a parent coralling a recalcitrant child's behaviour rather than outright indicting the behaviour.

And if you're already thinking it, you're right, finding unconditional love for something of the dark is not at all easy.

One of the nexuses in our plurality takes an obscene delight in feeding on any sign of piteous emotions, it finds our body dysphoria particularly rewarding as a subject.

Too many times we've had to pull back from the brink, but have more or less convinced it that killing the host is a sub-optimal solution.

Our preferred pronoun for that aspect is it, gendering seems to give it extra leverage.

We tried getting rid of it, tried integrating it, but the results were just self destructive, it simply found ever more subtle ways to wreak havoc.
