b) you can change the privacy settings of each toot to your liking! Public posts it to all timelines. Unlisted wont post it to the main federated or local timeline but will keep it on your profile and any follower's feeds. Private means only people that are following you can see it. Direct means only the people you mention in the toot will see your messages, much like a direct message on other social networks.

Tip for new folks: If you join an instance, then decide another instance is a better fit for you, you can create a new account and migrate your follower list over! It's in preferences -> import, or https://[your.instance]/settings/import

OMG Twitter friends are trying le Mastodon again/for the first time! A note/recommendation... as a rule, the big sites like mastodon.social are OK but you may want to try some smaller places and also follow stuff on your INSTANCE level (vs. the whole Fediverse). I'm on witches.town. I really like the toot.cat space/admin. If you're down with furries, awoo.space is pretty rad. cybre.space for you techier types, I've seen SUCH a better tech culture on there... So those are a few. And remember how we're down w/paying for better Twitter? Tip your admins! <3
