I am confused; the private-account setting says "...defaults post privacy to followers-only" -- how should this manifest? I've set that, but the compose window still seems to default to whatever I last used (which is public, because reasons.) Not that I'm complaining, because I was more interested in the "manually approve followers" part (because enough with the followbots, really).

@sev you can post under any privacy setting, but i recommend setting the default to at least unlisted. do note that as yet, private psots dont federate at all

@sev which i think means even to followers across instances, so...

sev @sev

@Nire yeah, this is being treated like a known "feature" in github issue discussions, so ...

I've been seeing Mastodon privacy as implementation-side-effect rather than a thing that has been designed & planned, which makes me sad.

@sev i mean they're all side effects because they're trying to work with ostatus

@sev i do think we probably have a plurality now and can leverage that to change the core federation stuff but that would require having devs willing to work on it

@sev and im uncofmortable asking that much work of people im not paying, i guess
