When u see two girls both wearing collars
Are we all having a kernel panic right now?
Let's make 2018 the year that we fall more in love with ourselves.

If you wanna know how wild my life is, I just sat here refreshing Illiad.
... some of you get that.
Turns out TempleOS isn't affected by the Intel bug
Which I'm sure is good news for all one people that use it
I'm feeling really inspired about a better internet thanks to quite a few people here. I've already learned a few things. Don't give in to despair. Nobody is going to build a decentralized internet but people like you.

I have tea, I have a timer set, I have a Google Doc... It's 7pm (ish) and it's time to get down to #amwriting ... about ethics in naming practice, technical barriers thereto, etc. I'm going to assert it's not just a tech issue. I think maybe a lot of people on here will have some experience with that.
Spent a little time today putting together a space for my first zine (a sewing pattern) and a cross-stitch pattern I made on my website: http://ruthtillman.com/patterns-zines/

They're all unrestricted to share & enjoy! (but please don't charge for distribution beyond what it might cost you to put things together)

"We should build information-literate lifelong learners because they may go through 7 careers" -- how about we turn out students who not only question that 7 career thing (because they will on their own, that's not on us) but who have tools for organizing, ethical frameworks for resisting, and generally values which prepare them to treat other people... augh I don't evne know how to articulate what I'm thinking exactly...
Also... "lifelong learning" -- good heavens but I never ever EVER want to start learning but that's also code for "we're going to lay you off when you're 55 and expect you to change careers"
Reading an article which talks about "skilled independent learners" and feeling an internal cringe because while being not inherently bad... the framing makes me think of a single person at their computer, responsible for finding and learning about things vs. a collaboratively learning society.
I dunno, there are some areas of my own profession, even, which I avoid because the mainstream discourse gives me shivers. OTOH I'm grateful for the people who engage with it and think about it because they exist in each of those areas. I can just only handle so much frustration at once, y'know?
Giroux "[Educators must contest] the increasingly dominant view propagated by neoliberal gurus such as Milton Friedman, that profit making is the essence of democracy and accumulating materials goods the essence of a good life."
Reflecting this week that at some points the acquisition of basic material goods is so fundamental (and ok) that then it can become harder once we have enough to switch gears and remember that's not the point.

The question is, will we do this manually since Robots doesn't allow wildcarding/regex rules or perhaps create a directory called "files" where we disallow indexing (yeah probably).
Let's grab the tiny, friendly gif of Garak doing jazz hands for the index.html page of the files directory.
We'll write the CSS in the header. Let's use tracking code from statcounter only, not Google, and put it in the footer. Let's throw a robots into the directory that only indexes the *.html pages and not the *.pdfs etc.
Handcoding some HTML today and gods it feels good. Not quite but almost like crafting by hand. The tools we have are amazing but proximity to a thing... whether it’s code or cutting vegetables can be so good.
Our poor dog must be feeling as dry as my skin does... he's been harassing us for skritches all day. 😕
