imagine Captain Planet and the Planeteers except they're green anarchists and it's biopunk

It's actually quite lovely, but nothing makes me feel older than inviting a 16-year-old to watch my favorite Nutcrackers with me. I realize most were about ~10 years old when _I_ was born and although I had them from age 4 (omg I've watched these for 28 years???), she was born in 2001 and... holy shit. These will be SO old for her.

I just let the Mastodon memes wash over me like waves

This morning, as I get home, I’m reflecting on how good it was yesterday. Want to travel as little in 2018 as possible

I just want someone other than June me to be proud of me because now me is a bit skittish.

PLEASE BE PROUD OF ME I SAID NO TO SOMETHING AND JUNE ME WILL BE GRATEFUL.

right now I'm all just like "oh gosh an opportunity" but... no. fucking no.

People often disparage ideas as "just reinventing the wheel".

"The wheel" isn't a concrete thing; it's an abstract concept. Actual physical wheels have specific purposes that are usually exclusive.

Sometimes what's available is a wagon wheel, and what you need is a bicycle wheel. Or just a larger wagon wheel. New implementations are being designed all the time.

That's not "reinventing"; that's re-engineering. There's nothing redundant about it.

...or in other words:

Good morning, Mastodon!

Lol @ engagements with a jinx of mine causing a bunch of wooshing sounds when I hooked the machine up to the HDMI.

Appendix to friendly reminder since I have chars:

1. Salvation army is transphobic/homophobic & you shouldn't give money to bell ringers.

2. If it's bell ringers vs. "officers" (yes, ugh, church militant and they have name tags) they're not IN the church and may be experiencing homelessness or doing some kind of rehab and at the mercy of the Salvation Army. So be gentle with refusal/don't hold them accountable for the policies they're probably under too (like being forced to pray to eat, being made to sit through sermons, etc.). They are often extremely vulnerable folks doing their best to survive.

2/2 Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting --
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

"Wild Geese" by Mary Oliver.

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about your despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.

Somehow I am in a place in the world where this is a midmorning selfie
