Hi everyone, I have been lured on here so I'll attempt to introduce myself.
I'm Katy. I'm an #archivist and #rarebook #librarian in Philadelphia, a mom to a teen boy, and in all of my abundant spare time I write #poetry, #fanfic (mostly romantic #doctorwho), and I'm trying to write an actual historical #romance novella. I also love #knitting, #football, #hockey, #yoga, and #running. Oh, and on twitter I'm lemurchild, if anyone's over there.

Romance novel reflections: having just lured a romance-writing friend here, I’m reflecting on the gap in my enjoyment between “oh crap we’re married now what” romance and “fuck there is a baby we have to care for.” ...the first feels like a problem to solve and opportunity for fun and sexy times. Sudden baby on your doorstep? ABSOLUTE TERROR NO THANKS. (Also no sleep)
@noelle I like "continuum" but I'm not sure it's commonly considered multi-dimensional. It seems like it has more flexibility about ends than spectrum but it feels very similar. I tend to think of "plane" re: gender (a straight line in some random spot on it for a lot of folks with others off at various angles) but that doesn't quite work either.

There's people who make good things for today, and that's a good thing because we need things to work today.
There's people who make things for tomorrow. And that's a good thing because tomorrow we will need new things.
There's people who make things for no particular time. Possibly never, but we can't know when. That may not be useful today, but people who make things for tomorrow may find them useful. So that's important even if not urgent.
I'm trying my best to be somewhere in the middle.

I'm not gonna suggest your workers' collective should be on Mastodon. But I AM going to hope that amongst yourselves you have other presences than the public Facebook which is the only one I can find. Because while it's not a bad way to grab people to start, it's actually dangerous. #union #collective #anticap

So FYI for people who follow me and are interested in professional-as-heck toots... I think if I'm gonna be walking through actual research process, tooting about some of my other technical work, etc., it'll be as @platypus. I'm always trying to figure out the best way to self-federate on here. Some of it is wondering what I want showing up in main on witches and what's appropriate... longass academia stuff isn't necessarily. Anyway.
@Qwyrdo this is true. And I think in talking about therapy I would definitely note it’s the work I’ve done. I also feel fortunate that I’ve had the opportunity and it’s these practices which I’ve kept with me
@ruth Gonna note that therapy *is still work*?
You can think of it a little like taking a class. Your therapist is teaching & mentoring you, but in the end, *you* have to apply that learning to your life.
However you want to acknowledge your brain skills teacher(s) is up to you; I know I've had some *awesome* therapists helping me. But don't give your own agency short shrift there, either
