who cares about space colonies tbh why dont we focus on colonising the ocean π³π¬ππ π‘ππππ
1) no new resources, or at least not on the scale available off earth
2) actually harder than space in some ways
3) can ocean colonies be made self-sustaining? Like, could you have a submarine steel foundry? I suspect this would be *extremely* difficult.
That said, it *will* be a problem if space colonies are capitalism-based.
We should do more ocean colonization, yes... but it doesn't achieve the same goals as space colonization.

@woozle @Ulfra_Wolfe this was intended as more of a jokey "i wanna hang out with some fish" toot than a serious proposal but tty for the info, interesting stuff to think about
@roadrunner @Ulfra_Wolfe I approve of hanging out with fish, ocean colonization in general. ^.^
Even if it wasn't serious, tho, it's something I've thought about over the years... a friend of my dad's who is/was heavily involved with diving research (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_B._Bennett) often argued seriously for what you were suggesting; he saw space-ex as a waste of resources.
I'm sure he had some good reasons, too. It's... still worth serious thought.
@woozle @Ulfra_Wolfe i think ocean exploration is more interesting/intriguing to me personally bc of all the undiscovered species and stuff!! maybe its best we leave them alone tho rather than ruining their habitats etc
