Dear French people :hugging:

Please go to your preferences and set your post privacy to "public, but do not display on public timeline". You'll be able to manually set your post privacy as "public" for help requests and general talk. mstdn.io/media/2ZOVLHkuxBZTuKY

I don't say that French people shouldn't speak French on the federated timeline. I'm saying that we as French should globally set our posts as unlisted, then manually set our posts as public if we want to talk to the federated timeline.

If you want to talk about France-specific things such as the ARCEP or what the fuck you want, I don't think there is a problem with you posting in French in the federated timeline.

@wire If I follow your Arcep example we should all (English speaking or not) switch to "Public but not listed" because every user will one day toot about something relevant only in his country.

If I talk about ARCEP in English it still won't be relevant to a user in Brazil.

If an Irish people talk about the Gaelic Football Championship on the federated timeline, it won't be relevant for a large English speaking people but according to your point of view that person will toot 'Public'

@rbelu What you said seems to be exactly my point. I don't mean people can't talk about what they like or in the language they like. I mean that to avoid flood people should set their posts privacy as 'unlisted' because they can set anything they like in 'public' anyway, and this is especially true when you're talking in French or in another language. I don't mean to tell people what they should or shouldn't post, and I'm sorry if I did.
