On Mastodon, you are responsible of what you post but also what is posted by those you follow.

There's a Mastodon instance posting alleged child pornography (I didn't check myself).

If one account on your server follow their accounts, their will be child pornography in the federated timeline of your server.

Needless to say: accounts are created on popular servers with the purpose of injecting child pornography in the timeline.

How to solve that problem without developing a censorship tool?

@ploum Are you talking about Pawoo ? Eugen added a feature in order for the admins to silence (not ban) selected instances in the federated timeline because of this instance.

I also read than in some countries censoring the federated timeline makes you responsible for its content, whereas not censoring it does not.

In any case it's up to the admin to chose.

Maybe in the not so near future the federated/local timelines will disappear.

… and an algorithm choose --tweets-- toots I can view in my timeline ? ;-)

@pinkilla @ploum people are actually asking now for algorithmic filtering of public timelines to select languages, and on big instances the global timeline is so fast it's actually completely useless and put a heavy load on the servers for nothing.
I think it's okay when the network is young and you need sources, but in the end when you follow a lot of people it doesn't really matter anymore.

@fenarinarsa @ploum

I agree if I can **choose** my filters not if filters are obscures.

I agree too filter like language but what else ? « toot I would like »

@pinkilla @ploum I agree. Anyway, Mastodon is still young. It's a very exciting project and Pawoo has already done a fork of it.
