@sophia maybe this is simplistic, but i think we need both historical portrayals (even if they're sad) and happy portrayals (even if they're ahistorical). i dont think one is right and one is wrong

i think where it gets dicey is stories that omit the violence and discrimination and don't own up to the fact that they're unrealistic

OR when the ahistorical stories are created by dominant groups as a way of downplaying how shitty they were
