@patience apropos of nothing i keep thinking you're tweaking your display name because the emoji symbol is green on ios and red on macos
@catalina it shows up in this browser as a white X inside a red box
@catalina (i don't have iOS on anything. in android, it's red as well)
@catalina iNOs
despite being an apple user since before macs, and despite using macs continuously since System 6, i have never had a device which runs iOS and, touch wood, probably never will so long as it's a completely closed system (especially egregious given how its code base derived from OS X, which itself was built from a mess of open source components)
all of this to say: idk why the emoji shows up inconsistently between macos and ios
@patience augh it's actually only green in the mastodon app, in little mobile safari i'ts fine
@patience but yeah, i'm not a fan of that either
i was a hair's breadth away from switching to linux completely a few months ago, but only didn't because it didn't support my vpn
otherwise i would have probably switched to android too, tho the impression i get is it takes a bit of work to get a secure version installed
@catalina aww shit i need to budget for a vpn :(
@catalina right around the regime change in january, i shopped around for vpns and came very close to a choosing from a couple of finalists, but then realized i didn't have the budget for it. instead, i did what i could within my power (locally). i still plan to bring a vpn into things at some point
