This goes for pretty much every metric, really. Workplaces can be deeply traumatizing places. The abuse is just so normalized, especially under capitalism, that we tend to overlook it.
Take care when evaluating the apparent autonomy of job candidates: Many if not most have come from environments with pathological levels of active resistance to employee autonomy, so the candidate may be overcoming real trauma to demonstrate much autonomy at all.

it pains me to see you hurt as the anxiety washes over your body's skin,
the fearful and misunderstanding blight spreading like a plague,
to see you sit there and shiver, slightly unsure what to do is torture.
This anxiety will not win, I won't let it.
You’re not alone in this.
Stop acting like you are.
You are loved. You matter.
People care about you,
No matter what some
Dramatic incursion reveals.
The components of your
Soul shine through the
Darkness that covers it
If you know how to look.
J. Jennifer Espinoza is one of my absolute favourite writers. Her poems painfully and superbly convey her experience as a trans woman.
Which is to say, she is extremely little-known, even by poet standards.
Happy International Women's Day!
The Best American Poetry just published a poem by J. Jennifer Espinoza:
...
That I am a woman because there are stars
and water and air and trees and dirt and flesh and
words and dreams and love and feeling.
That I have less than forever to hold myself.

Everybody remember that International Women's Day originated from socialist feminism, because capitalism will give us nothing

Heads up: if you're in the US, and either have EBT or Medicaid, you can get Amazon Prime for $6/mo (as opposed to the usual $13/mo or $99/year). https://www.amazon.com/l/16256994011?ms3_c=f97ca5dc305e732cc305ccacac882b88
Speaking as a history major: History is FULL of cases where things seemed inevitable, then changed. Sometimes the shifts take time. Sometimes they can be surprisingly sudden.
And in all of history, there were people on the periphery. There were those who didn't agree with those in power. There were those who resisted, and those who spoke on the periphery, well away from prying ears. But radical ideas have never died.
I'm pretty radicalized, but I think I have reason to be. We collectively need to rise up and *do* things about the way things are. This isn't just revolution in the conflicting sense, but *also* supporting community organization and culture that's better than the system.
We are all stronger together than not, and anything that helps us helps all of us. If you best want to resist, do what you can to provide support for others. Help each other. Help yourselves too. What helps you helps us, too.
