I would really have liked to drive the one hour away to help protect comrades in Charlottesville today, but I had no choice but to work (or starve). I overheard the grisly blow-by-blow of news while clearing plates of wasted food from in front of rich, old ass white people. This shit was happening ONE HOUR AWAY in a city with which most of them were deeply familiar and they discussed it like it just another piece of cocktail hour conversation

So, apparently the event I'm catering this afternoon is an anniversary party... Which has a second part tomorrow. Who has a two-day catered anniversary celebration in 2017??? These people are going to suck :/

Today is one of those days where I wish I could just hit a button and respawn in bed. I woke from a miserable nightmare filled with anxiety, struggled to get out of bed, and now I'm begging the anxiety to calm down before I have to go work for 12 hours. I feel like I left on a Monster Hunter quest without eating a meal first (does anybody here even play MH?).

Speaking Thai makes me feel like English and French could really use some distinctions between different meanings of "to be." To be somewhere อยู่ (yùu), to be something เป็น (bpen), copula "to be" implying equivalence คือ (keuu), etc.

Le thaï me donne l'impression que le français et l'anglais bénéficieraient de quelques distinctions entre des sens différents du mot "être." Être quelque part อยู่ (yùu), être quelque chose เป็น (bpen), verbe copule qui désigne l'équivalence คือ (keuu), etc.

Recent events make me feel that I may never get to visit the DPRK in my lifetime, and that makes me incredibly, painfully sad.

I'm seeing on birdsite that the US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley's spokesperson has resigned, and her chief of staff is planning to, both of whom were hired since the election. The previous (career) spokesperson resigned only two weeks or so ago.

On the one hand, I realize Haley is an incompetent fool and being her international spokesperson would be torture, but on the other, this employee turnover is still really alarming >.>

jokes like "haha I hope DPRK *does* bomb us I wanna die anyway!!!" are super not funny for two reasons.

1. Language like this affirms the US government's bullshit assertion that Americans are in danger. It will simply strengthen the country's view of DPRK as a "bad" country, legitimizing the inevitable military action against them.

2. In the event that DPRK *did* begin a nuclear war, it is South Koreans, not Americans, who would likely bear the brunt of the damage. Check your privilege.

fun fact: the Thai word for "to exercise" is

ออกกำลังกาย (aàwk-gamlang-gaai)

which, broken into its components, means

ออก "to leave, exit, depart, remove from"
กำลัง "energy, strength, vigor, power"
กาย "human body, physique"

so, literally, "cause energy/power/vigor to leave the body"

In four days, what may be the biggest white supremacist gathering in a decade is scheduled to take place nearby. Meanwhile my girlfriend and I have no choice but to focus on keeping ourselves afloat, and avoid drowning in debt until I can afford to declare bankruptcy. This summer is trash.

Then the personality disorder steps in, thinking it's slick, telling me I shouldn't even look out of my own mind, that I should retreat into my comatose fantasy land.

I love when I wake up and my mental illness immediately floods my head with "NOPE. YOU CAN'T WORK OR OTHERWISE LEAVE THE HOUSE TODAY. GET USED TO IT."
