Dad: Dexter, five words: Scoop, roll, throw, hit, duck! -- Dexter's Laboratory - Snowdown

correction that only I care about Afficher plus

I really like the Thai way of telling how old you are; it's delightfully simple. The verb อายุ means "is (x) years old," there's no version of "to be" or "year" necessary.

Thus:

ฉันอายุยี่สิบห้า
chan + aa-yoo + saam-sip-haa
I + อายุ + 25 = "I am 25 years old."

English and French are shook

tell me this song doesn't just absolutely knock you over

sidenote the message of this song is basically what being in love means to me. also this song and album in general were one of my earliest anxiety management tricks. just so beautiful.

Just came across an essay I read years ago as a student, about how Björk's accent and phonology change based on whether she is or is not heavily identifying with Iceland at a particular moment. It's a kind of code switching.

To summarize: She has a very heavy Icelandic accent (for which she is known) primarily when talking/singing about Iceland, or associating with it. Other times, she has a noticeable Estuary (London) English accent, mainly when addressing or associating with English audiences.

I'm bitter that I didn't know a single person to play Splatoon with back when I bought my Wii U. Now all I see is people talking about playing on the switch *cries*

oh wait this is the full one, where she says

fun fact, Björk's favorite book is The Story of The Eye by George Bataille, in which a main character pleasures herself with a dead person's eyeball (among other things). this makes it sound awful but it's actually an excellent book.

ANYWAY, Bataille's erotism inspires the song, and the video was supposed to be inspired by the book, hence the eggs.

the director made her fry the eggs, because she hadn't read the book. Björk was upset because the eggs had to be whole for it to make sense. afterward, the director DID read the book, and agreed.

are there other Björk stans lurking about? I always want to have in-depth discussions about her music but most people just think of it as "weird"

I present the song that changed my life and made me into a permanent Björk stan

Managing all of the library's outgoing interlibrary loans (i.e. all of the books, DVDs, scans, electronic documents etc. that we loan to other libraries) is really interesting. There are so many books and just general topics that I probably would never have thought to read or learn about if they hadn't crossed my desk on the way to some grad student somewhere.
