So my bank got robbed today (it's local, there are two branches in this one small town) and for some reason they haven't sent out an email or anything...

I mean I know it's insured, but it's a little disturbing that I wouldn't have even known it happened without hearing it through the grapevine.

We need to pay our power bill by Friday, and my whole paycheck went to paying the past due amount on my car loan (which actually feels great). Rent time is also coming up really soon, and other bills are piling up... >.>

I think about my depression as an abusive and manipulative entity, with a strong and malicious will to do me harm. It is clever, it plots and schemes. It will make me feel comforted, because it is a constant companion through my living nightmare, but only by making me forget that it in fact caused the nightmare to begin with.

Cut the motherfucker off. Don't sit and chat with it, call it what it is - a liar. When it briefly loosens its hold on you, enjoy it, but don't be fooled into lowering your defenses. It's all part of a process of gaslighting you into an endless cycle of illness and not-illness, thereby denying you actual health.

I think the energy cost of bathing is so high that it alone can bring a person down.

I mean think about it - showers in particular require so much bending, so much standing and scrubbing and drying and dressing, that even a small episode of depression can make them seem daunting if not impossible. If you can barely summon the energy to keep your head up straight and focus your eyes on the room in front of you, how on Earth can you manage to keep yourself clean?

Once your hygiene lapses, it's almost impossible to feel good about yourself. It's depression's most effective tactic (in my experience).

One of the worst things about depression is how it quickly convinces you that you don't deserve to have a clean living environment or a clean/healthy body.

Cleaning, bathing, and making healthy food are already very energy-consuming, so they are often the first things lost to the physical exhaustion. Once you are filthy, malnourished, and living in squalor, the energy required to fix it increases. Meanwhile, the sight and feeling of the situation reinforce the feelings of worthlessness.

"I can't even do these simple things that everyone does, I don't deserve them or even _______ (insert some other thing you totally deserve)." And so on.
