Yes people I am Autistic and the one way to really piss me off and make me never want to interact with you again is to talk about autism like it is a disease (it isn't the only reason it is a disability is society is too inflexible) or to advocate a "cure" it is no way to cure an autistic it is a part of them, if somehow you did succeed it would be the end of that person because autism is so intertwined in our personality and who we are there is no separating us from autism we are autistic.
@codeawayhaley To me, the worst thing about AS (I'm not autistic) is that the majority of their focus seems to be on pitying the parents and other caretakers of autistic people. The puzzle piece is a perfect example of this, analogizing autistic people (children in particular) as being difficult to incorporate into the lives of others.
Like, who fucking cares? How is that activism? It's just a circle-jerk for parents who have it sooo hard, boo-hoo.
